Our New Calling
Hi everyone. No pix this time, but hopefully we will get some around the fourth of July. Dave and I are getting to know the kids in the singles ward. It is going to be a crazy ride!! There are about 400 kids in the summer. They are full of energy and multiple activities weekly that we are invited to attend. We've already been told that our home will be put to good use. We knew there was a reason we got this house :) Since my home is empty of my own children and gchildren, I guess it will be filled with others' children. (Except when you guys visit). We are going to a Luau on the 20th, FHE every Monday night, RS activity on the 13th, VT luncheon on the 14th; sealings on the 26th; and some other activities I don't even know about yet. Pray for me! I hope their energy is contagious.

It sounds like you will have a pretty exciting and rewarding time during this calling. I'm sure you will grow to love those young people tremendously. What a great blessing in your lives!
I bet you too will be awesome in the singles ward. I loved my singles ward. Good luck with the energy and time part too. Dad Innes was always doing something with his singles ward sounds like you are headed down the same road. So you didn't say what is your calling? Congrats!
Wow, 400 young adults...that's a big ward. I think this calling will be good for you guys. It will definitely keep you busy, which I think will be good for you. We really enjoyed Jake's calling in the singles ward. I know we are younger and could relate to them but I know the bishop and other counselor enjoyed it just as much. The energy level is high in those type of wards. You guys will be great and I'm sure the YSA will look up to you as their second mom/dad. Good luck with it!
Please keep an eye on my brother for me. Make sure he goes to those activities and gets his butt in gear! We are excited to come visit again next month

Leslie,
Dave is the Executive Secretary. There are only 8 of us oldies in the ward, namely, the Bishopric and their wives. I am getting a calling as well in the RS. This sure is different. Many are students but others have already graduated and are single adults working. The ages are 18-30.
I've got to tell you...my calling in the single's ward was, next to my mission, the best calling I've EVER HAD. I really enjoyed it. I'm very jealous.
Being involved is harder for the wives, because you're not forced to be at every event. So my advice to you is that you throw yourself into the mix of things. Seek out friends in the young adults. There will be a couple sisters who need mentoring and role models...and you'll be right there to give it if you're extremely involved.
Good luck! I am indeed envious.
